Toyota 4Runner

If you’re willing, the 4Runner is able. With a standard 4.0-liter V6 engine pumping out 270 horsepower and available 4-Wheel Drive with Active Traction Control, it’s ready to handle almost any terrain you throw at it.

You could say it’s durable, but that doesn’t do it justice. The 4Runner is one of the last SUVs to be built with body-on-frame construction, which is just one of the reasons why 90% of 4Runners sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today1.

What are critics saying about the Toyota 4Runner?

Edmunds –

Rowdy, off-road ready, truck-based SUVs were once the hottest segment in the market. But shoppers soon discovered that those kids of utility vehicles also came with rough rides and lousy fuel economy and weren’t really suited for daily commuting chores. It won’t give you the fuel efficiency or ride comfort of a car-based crossover, but the 2016 4Runner stays true to its roots as a hairy-chested SUV that’s ready for almost anything. Read More >>

Car and Driver –

While most of its competitors now have car-based platforms, the 4Runner remains a body-on-frame SUV and true to its truck roots. This yields benefits off-road, where it is sturdy and capable. In daily driving, however, it can’t match modern crossovers that offer more room and a smoother on-road ride. For the hard-core mudder, there’s the TRD Pro with knobby 31.5-in tires and heavy-duty suspension. A 270-hp V-6, five-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive are standard; all-wheel drive is optional.
